New Super Moon
And a new 19-year cycle
You probably have already heard ~ there’s a BIG new moon happening tonight ~ Saturday, May 16, 2026.
I’ve seen it all over my socials, it was mentioned multiple times at the yoga studio this morning, and it was discussed in some group chat text chains over the last few days.
I’ve just spent the last hour reading into it and I can now see why it is such a big talking point.
Here’s what you need to know ~
Any new moon is a great time to consider what you want to let go and what you want to call in. It’s a time to listen to your inner wisdom and set intentions as you begin a new month.
A typical new moon would invite you to spend some time reflecting and manifesting what you want with rituals like writing down your intentions or meditating on your goals.
This new moon is not just any new moon.
First, it’s a supermoon and a powerful celestial event. Supermoons happen when the moon is the closest it can get to Earth so the impact is greater. If it was a super full moon, it would look huge in the night sky. Since it’s a new moon, you can’t see it much at all. The sky will be dark tonight and it’ll be a great time to stargaze as you send your wishes up to the stars.
They say it’s always darkest before the dawn and a super new moon is just that… a dark night before a new beginning.
But this is not just a typical shift because this is not a typical new moon.
This super new moon in Taurus is the first in a new nodal cycle and that will lead to a truly monumental re-arrangement of our lives over the next 19 years.
The nodal cycle is 19 years long and so tonight has energy that is preparing us not just for the next month, but for the next two decades. The intentions we set now are the foundation of the life we’ll be living in 2045.
Huh, you ask. Good question.
I learned all about the details of the Lunar Nodes and the 19-year cycle and what it means from a fantastic resource, the Collective World, so take a look there for more info about it and give them a follow on Insta:
This new moon is in Taurus which is connected to the foundational layers of our lives and connects us to things like money, resources, sustainability, and security.
Your finances, career, and personal boundaries are all things to be considering right now. What do you want? Not just the version you say out loud because it sounds acceptable. What do you truly desire?
This new moon invites us to stop thinking about what we want but instead, feel it in the body.
Taurus is a fixed sign, an Earth sign, and full of grounding energy. It’s an embodied sign and shares its wisdom through the physical body. It’s time to get quiet and listen to the body. Move and shake and dance and feel yourself in physical form.

Setting Intentions ~
Once you understand your heart, set your intentions in any way that feels right to you. There are all kinds of rituals and techniques that people use on a new moon.
Of course, I like to write. I spent time this morning grounding outside, listening to the birds, writing in my journal. I meditated, savored some tea, pulled tarot cards and journaled some more. Then I walked to the yoga studio, just over a mile away, for the morning class.
After a great yoga class focused on building curiosity of body and spirit, and lunch with my husband downtown on a gorgeous afternoon, we walked back home together and then napped on our double hammock in the shade.
To say today was an absolutely perfect day is a vast understatement.
Through all the listening to my body and my heart, I realized that this morning is what I want to call into my life. I want more long and slow mornings with intentional practices to start my day. This afternoon is what I want to call into my life. I want more relaxing afternoons filled with contentment and peace with those I love.
My night is getting started with reflecting more on the new moon by writing this, and I plan to continue to focus on setting intentions as we head into the night.
What are your intentions for this new super moon?
Journal Prompts:
New Moon Ritual: A simple idea is to write out what you want to let go and what you want to call in and place that paper under a glass of water outside to be charged by the full moon. In the morning, reread your words and drink the water as you consume your intentions and allow them to fill your body and spirit. Feel free to put some plastic wrap over the glass before bed if you plan to do the drinking part to avoid bugs in the water!
What new moon rituals or ways of setting intentions have called to you over the years? Write about any intention setting ceremonies (formal or informal) you’ve experienced and how they worked for you. If you haven’t ever done a new moon ritual, google it to see what other ideas sound interesting and write about why it might be exciting to try.
The last 19 year cycle ended in 2007. Write about your life back then and what the last 19 years was like. Are there any big themes that you are excited to let go?
